Ewing Northern Community Consolidated School District 115 Board of Education met Aug. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Regular School board meeting was called to order at 6:370P.M. by Board President Jonathan Edwards.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Jake Page, Pokey Squires, Jonathan Edwards, Emanuel Lowe, Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter

MEMBERS ABSENT: Ryan Skibo

Visitors present: Amy Hamson, Rhonda Carlton, Kessa Bernard, Jessica LaCourse

President’s Comments: *First day of school was Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

*Baseball and softball season has begun. Baseball home games at Whittington and Softball at the school field.

*Cross Country season has started practicing and they have 7 students participating.

Consent Agenda MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to approve the consent agenda. 2nd by Caleb Suver. 6 ayes (Caleb Suver, Jonathon Edwards, Karla Gunter, Pokey Squires, Jake Page, and Emanuel Lowe.)

Curriculum & Instruction Mrs. Ing presented information on class size, schedules and curriculum for the 2024-2025 school year.

We have 223 total students plus 20 students enrolled in the Pre-K program and will be full after fall birthdays.

Curriculum and schedules are going good. 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 7th Grade and 8th Grade are all split classes.

Summer Projects Update Mrs. Ing updated the board on current summer projects and discussed additional building needs.

*Landscaping around the new addition and front sign needs completed.

*The Whittington baseball field needs trashcans.

*The gym pole mats are in process of being replaced.

*They will be oil and chipping the track and teacher parking this week.

Sports Programming Ms. Kessa Bernard presented information to the school board regarding a girls basketball program for Ewing Grade School. The board will discuss any further action to move forward.

September meeting MOTION by Jake Page to move the September Board meeting to Tuesday, September 17, 2024 due to scheduling conflicts. 2nd by Caleb Suver. 6 ayes (Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter, Jonathon Edwards, Pokey Squires, Emanuel Lowe, and Jake Page).

Tentative Budget Mrs. Ing reviewed the 2024-2025 tentative budget.

Budget Hearing MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to set the Date and Time for the Budget Hearing to be Tuesday, September 17th at 6:15pm. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. 6 ayes (Caleb Suver, Karla Gunter, Jonathon Edwards, Pokey Squires, Emanuel Lowe, and Jake Page).

2nd Reading Policy MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to approve and adopt the second reading of board policies 2:125; 2:160; 2:70; 2:70E; 4:15; 4:70; 4:80; 5:130; 5:180; 5:200; 5:290; 6:110; 6:140; 6:150; 7:170. the 2nd by Pokey Squires. 6 ayes (Karla Gunter, Caleb Suver, Jonathon Edwards, Pokey Squires, Jake Page, and Emanuel Lowe).

1st Reading Policy First reading of board policies 2:260; 2:265; 2:265-AP1; 2:265-AP2; 2:265-AP3; 2:265-E; 5:100; 7:10-AP1; 7:10-AP2; 7:20; 7:20-AP; 7:185.

Executive Session: MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to go into Executive Session to discuss the assignment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity. 5ILCS 120/2c (1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057. 2nd by Emanuel Lowe. Time in: 8:15 pm.

MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to come out of Executive Session. 2nd by Pokey Squires. Time Out: 9:45pm.

Resignation MOTION by Jonathan Edwards to accept the resignations of Wyatt McClintock as Head Basketball Coach and Victor Munoz as Assistant Basketball Coach. 2nd by Pokey Squires. 6 ayes (Karla Gunter, Caleb Suver, Jonathon Edwards, Pokey Squires, Jake Page, and Emanuel Lowe).
