Analysis: Mount Vernon City administrators rank 442nd in state for average pay

Administrators in Mount Vernon City Schools District 80 earn an average of $100,593 per year, ranking 442nd out of 864 districts in Illinois, according to a North Egypt News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2020 average is 12 percent higher than in 2016 and 5.2 percent higher than in 2011. District administrators make 9.6 percent less than the state average of $111,293.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Mount Vernon City School District in Jefferson County enrolled 1691 students in 2019-2020. There is an average of 141 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 171 to 1.
