COUGARS TAKE DOWN (RV) IU-KOKOMO IN DUNN HOSPITALITY GROUP CLASSIC

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team (6-7) opened the Dunn Hospitality Group Classic, hosted by Oakland City University, with a good win over (RV) Indiana University Kokomo (10-4) by a score of 67-63.

After building a 34-29 lead at halftime, Kokomo rallied back in the second half. IUK built a 55-48 lead with 9:08 remaining in the game. With plenty of time left on the clock, MVNU began to chip away at the lead, thanks to a strong defensive effort. With the defense locked in, MVNU was able to muster up enough offensively to close the game on a 15-8 run. The Cougar defense held IUK to 35.3% shooting from the field and just 25.9% shooting from deep.

MVNU did a great job of hitting its free throws, especially down the stretch to ice the game. MVNU went 15-18 at the line.

Inside the Box Score

TC Molk led the way with 15 points. The freshman went 6-9 from the field off the bench.

Trent Koning had 14 points, five rebounds and four steals for MVNU.

Kade Ruegsegger had 11 points. Kyle Kegley had 11 points and 16 rebounds in 23 minutes of work off the bench.

Coach Ronai's Thoughts

"Really proud of our guys' effort and execution. IU Kokomo is a really good team and we really guarded and locked into our keys. This group is growing. A lot of young guys got great experience in key moments tonight that will pay dividends down the road. They're focused on getting better everyday and we're looking forward to doing that tomorrow."
